11 | “Just”
Today’s Reading: Luke 1:53 “he has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.”
A Simple Thought: GOD IS JUST
In Bible college I did a paper examining the “the reversal of fortunes” in the book of Luke. This is a clear example of that. The last will be first, the lowly will be exalted, the hungry will be fed, the poor will be housed, the needy will be cared for, the alienated will be included, the voiceless will be protected. This is how the kingdom of God works.
Mary is glad to worship a God who is in the business of reversing fortunes. It doesn’t mean that everything will be easy, but it means that she will never be hungry. That’s her God. He gives dignity to people. He breathes value on people. He shows people that they really are cared for. This is God’s justice at play. In an unjust world, God makes things right. He gives power to the powerless, freedom to the oppressed. Justice to the marginalized.
