As a pastor, I get labeled all the time. Instead of rejecting labels, I’m learning to embrace them.

Yes, I am LIBERAL – I question traditional values. I care about the poor. I want justice & freedom for the oppressed. I believe the government should be actively supporting social and political change & I believe those in power have a responsibility to ALL people. I support amnesty for those who are in our country illegally. Also, I drink beer & I hang out with “sinners,” (i actually like them as friends.) I prefer Rock music over K-love or piano led church choir songs.

Yes, I am CONSERVATIVE – I’m a pro life, gun owning, God in schools guy. I believe the older generation contains a LOT more wisdom than my generation. I support our men in uniform overseas. I’m all for securing and patrolling our borders so that people do not enter our country illegally. I don’t watch movies with nudity or the constant use of *G.D*

Yes, I am SEEKER SENSITIVE – this phrase is often used by ‘superior’ church people to label me as though it’s something negative. Ummm…do you prefer a church leader who is more hostile towards non-believers? I believe God draws all people to Himself, and Im just one of many people who are actually sensitive to the needs/emotions of “ALL PEOPLE”! I will do anything short of sin to reach people who are far from God.

Yes, I am SPIRIT-FILLED – I believe in the infilling & indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I pray in tongues (and I kiss with tongues! 😜) I believe that Acts 2 was ONLY THE BEGINNING of all that God wants to do in and through the church, and I am HUNGRY for and desperate to see a move of God across our nation.

Yes, I am OLD SCHOOL – I hold to the inerrancy of Scripture, believe the Bible IS the Word of God, that Jesus IS the son of God, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, He took our place on the cross and died for our sins to make us right with God. I believe the TOMB IS EMPTY, I believe in a literal heaven and hell…AND I believe God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Yes, I am NEW SCHOOL – I believe most people are good, And most mama’s oughta qualify for sainthood. I believe most Friday nights look better under neon or stadium lights…

oh wait… that’s a Luke Bryan song.

But go ahead and label me! I’ll wear your label with pride because I actually BELIEVE Paul was on to something when he said…

“Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.”

– 1 Corinthians 9:19-22
