“If you give me $77 for 77 weeks, it will activate your blessing!” I once heard a TV preacher say this, and while I question his motives, and I wholeheartedly disagree with his logic, the general principle is actually pretty valid.
Let me explain.
The verse of the day. Today is Luke 6:38. It says give, and you will receive your gift will return to you in full press down, shaken together to make room for more running over and poured out into your lap.The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
This verse is often used to talk about money…Sort of the principle of sowing a seed and reaping the harvest. But I would say this verse is not just about money. It includes money, but it’s not limited to how we see money (in full context).
The whole chapter is not even about money, it’s about judgment and forgiveness. What Jesus is saying here is that if you judge others harshly, then you’re going to receive harsh judgment.
And if you offer forgiveness freely to others, then you’re going to receive an abundance of forgiveness.
Two of the kindest people that I know are actually probably reading this right now. Rebecca Zatyko and Chris Digman, you both live out this kind of sacrificial, kindness oriented life. And because of your genuine care and concern for others, I guarantee that you’ll receive it back in “full.” If you don’t, you truly do deserve it.
So Jesus, here, is saying the measure in which you give kindness, forgiveness and compassion will be returned to you in full, and that’s what today’s verse is all about.
So today…be kind, give big, love others.
It will all come back around full circle
Question of the day: Is there a situation where you’ve seen this play out in your life?
